The Karmic Aspects- The Square ::

THE SQUARE ASPECT ::

When we study an Astrological chart in order to ascertain what karmic lessons are in store, we look at the square aspect.

The square happens between two planets that are 90 degrees apart.  The symbol of the square is just that :: a box.  The square is all about friction that cannot find resolution.  It can also become an obsession since the solutions "we think we have" don't work.  The key to resolving a square between two planets is balance. In other words, making friends with both planets and incorporating the energy of both planets in our daily life.  The goal of a square aspect is to become a trine.

** tip** If you are interested in resolving the square aspects between planets in your chart, look up those planets as making a trine aspect instead and read the meaning. You will then find your solution.

Squares in Twin Flame Synastry are particular important since they point out the karmic struggles you two face in this lifetime.  In order to move into a state of reunion, these karmic stumbling blocks must be faced and resolved. If you are interested in finding out what is standing between your current Twin Flame stage and the Reunion stage, order a Twin Flame Synastry reading by visiting my Astrology Readings page.

The square can make us scream, run for the hills, stomp our feet but there is no getting around it.
The balance must be restored.

For example if Pluto (the planet of powerful transformations) is square to Venus (the planet of love, beauty, money and self-worth) the chart native will struggle relentlessly with issues of self-love, money, self-worth and relationships in general until...(!) the native understands that transformation of anything that affects one's self-esteem, along with false beliefs stemming from childhood traumas is the key to this karmic dilemma.

In a past life, the native probably indulged in low-based energies and instead of transformation, the behavior resulted in stagnation of the soul's journey.  In this life, the square between Pluto and Venus shows up to remind the "native" of what happened the last time.
Kind of "don't forget that weekend in Vegas-- wink wink".

Of course, this is only ONE example.

Squares to Pluto are always indicative of transformation and power. We either feel totally powerful or powerless in the area of the planet squaring Pluto. And then, there is the 12 astrological houses which offer even more clues as to how this will play out.
Many pieces of the puzzles here.

Squares to Neptune are always painful because this is where we feel void of our spirituality, love, reality, and dreams.  Whatever planet square Neptune implies a challenge in overcoming not Neptune but the planet itself.

Example:  Moon Square Neptune

The Moon (nurturing, the mother, needs but also childhood fears) squares Neptune (spirituality, creativity, the infinite, spiritual realm, soulmates).  This karmic square could play out in many different ways, not all are applicable to the chart native. It could mean that the native's fears are irrational and cannot be placed in this life.  This placement would indicate that something very traumatic  could not be resolved in a past life and the memory has followed the native into this one.
This could also point to extreme sensitivity leading to paranoia and irrationality.  Problems with the mother figure, the mother being a karmic connection.

As astrologers we are investigator. The natal chart provides many clues but it is our job to put the right pieces together to form a whole picture.

SQUARES TO THE ANGLES

The angles in the chart divide the chart in 4 quadrants.

The Ascendant is placed at the beginning of House One

The IC (Imum Coeli i.e., the bottom of the sky) marks the beginning of House Four

The Descendant is placed at the beginning of House Seven

The MC (The Midheaven) at the beginning of House Ten.

THE ASCENDANT

The Ascendant marks the entry of the soul into the physical body, the vessel for this particular incarnation.  A karmic square to the Ascendant is a debt to your physical body.  Issues of safety, health, well-being are usually indicated.  When one of the karmic planet squares the Ascendant, caution must be exercised.
Which planet is it?

With Pluto we see the potential for physical transformation hampered.  We can also see issues around being powerless and unsafe. We can also see someone being a victim of violence.

This placement is not indicative that the native "deserved" this in a past life. Rather, that this has happened before and it was not resolved. In this life, the native must learn to protect oneself, say no, become empowered and open to transformation of the body through diet, exercise, surgery and anything else that can ameliorate a physical condition.  Once again, you owe it to yourself.

With Saturn we see that the native will have problems with restrictions of any kind, physical commitments, fear of aging is common, fear of being unattractive or being wise beyond one's years. Saturn is always time and karma and in this case, the rest of the chart will bring a clearer picture as to what kind of karma you owe to your physical body.  There is usually a feeling of being unloved for one's looks, feeling like one is not beautiful enough or strong enough.

With Uranus, the native is asked to be on alert for unexpected changes that will affect them physically. This is not necessarily a bad thing, rather the soul has asked for extra help from the Universe. Expect the unexpected.  You could be invited to stay abroad with a friend, fall in love with the new location and move. Again, the karmic aspect implies that the native may prefer to stay home, in a controlled environment.  Uranus demands that the native speed things up and makes sure that the "comfort zone" toxic for spiritual growth is always challenged.

Jupiter squaring the Ascendant often cautions the native against overindulgence, especially around food and weight gain.  Too much of a good thing.  There may also be an exaggerated sense of self and one's one physical capabilities which can lead to injuries.  Jupiter wants the native to slow down and be realistic and by doing so, happiness and balance is guaranteed.

Neptune.... This is a tough one.  When Neptune squares the Ascendant, the native shrinks away from opportunities both career and romance related due to a false belief of disappointing, not being good enough, not having the right skills.  There is a tendency to be a self-defeatists and your own worst enemy.  A propensity to addiction is present whether the native acts on it or not... it is there.

Any square to Neptune implies unclear perceptions of your true spiritual beauty.  Therefore, any negative self-perception is false. This is a painful placement, I am not gonna lie.  The key here is to reach out to your Pluto and Mars for courage and assertiveness.  There is nothing wrong with you.

THE IC

The IC represents our home, our roots, our safety but it also represents our past lives.  Contacts to the IC in synastry always implies a karmic/soulmate/twin flame connection.  The IC is our gut, our heart, our innards. Anything that hits here, hits home.  You can imagine how a square must feel.  The IC is at the beginning of the Fourth House.  The Fourth House in general is a sensitive point, but the IC is the bull's eye of the target. It will pack a punch.

THE DESCENDANT

The Descendant marks the beginning of the Seventh House, the House of Formal Relationships (Marriages and Business).  Your soulmate and twin flame is not always found in the seventh house, actually, since many do not formally marry.  A square to the descendant will affect how you behave in traditional and formal one-on-one relationships.  Your spouse, business partner are the key focus. And since this denotes a karmic imbalance, chances are this person is one of your karmic connections rushing to your aid to help you heal.  It does not always feel that way, but from the Higher Perspective, anyone who teaches you an important lesson is part of your soul family.

The MC

This is where you are seen in society and it often denotes career. The tenth house is the house of recognition, career and fame.  Many celebrities and notables have squares to the MC.  The karma here insists you make something of yourself.  These natives are always career-driven, maniacally so at times, and possess a laser-beam focus.  But there will be challenges.  The lesson here is perseverance. If you have an karmic (outer) planet squaring the MC you cannot give up. See it to the bitter end, whatever career choice it might be.  The main challenge with this particular square is getting discouraged and throwing in the towel.  If you have a karmic planet squaring the MC, look below, you are in good company!

Babe Ruth (Pluto square the MC), Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Marlon Brando (Jupiter square the MC), Abraham Lincoln (Neptune square the MC), Salvador Dali and Jack Kerouac (Uranus square the MC), Angelina Jolie and Robert DeNiro (Saturn square the MC).

5D VERSUS 3D

Twin flame relationships are ruled by Neptune.  Why, you ask? The 12th house (Neptune's realm) is the house of ascension.  Think ...
